Meriden is soon to gain a new business in Bloom Beauty & Co. While esthetician Emmy Goldberg and massage therapist Meaghan Wellman have both served the town in their respective positions prior, they had been renting space in the Whole Health building downtown. After being asked to vacate their previous location, the two decided to stick together to find a place to land.
What they found was a long-vacated space on the south end of Countryside Square. Goldberg’s lease began Nov. 2, and she has spent her time since renovating the neglected former dentist office. Fresh paint, new flooring, and an updated lobby welcome prospective customers to the new business, which is set to hold its grand opening from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. Feb. 10. The event will include a visit from the Blind Barista coffee truck, Finely Linked permanent jewelry, and drawings, gifts, and snacks.
“We are working hard to ensure a smooth transition from there to here,” stated Goldberg. “We are looking forward to sharing our new space with our clients and with the community.”
Goldberg, a 2021 graduate of Jefferson West High School, had always intended to become a therapist. Then COVID hit, derailing everyone’s plans, and by the end of her senior year, she decided she didn’t want to be in a college environment anymore.
However, she was always into skincare, and determined to try cosmetology school in Lawrence. After a year of training, she had obtained her licensure and since then has fulfilled three six-month leases. For the past six months, she had been renting space at Whole Health.
“I just feel that it’s time to venture out and do my own thing,” Goldberg said. “And so far I am loving having a place to call my own, one that I have really been able to put my name on.”
She will provide facial, lash, and brow services at the new location. While her time is filled by appointment only, she intends to have the location open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The lobby will eventually be stocked with the wares of local vendors for perusal.
Goldberg and her boyfriend, Henry, a welder for R&S Maintenance, Meriden, live in Ozawkie.
Wellman, a 2009 Jeff West grad, received her formal massage training at Bellus Academy, first attending cosmetology classes before completing massage school. She also had formerly been renting space at Whole Health.
Her business, Deep Kneads by Meaghan, provides Swedish, deep tissue, and prenatal massages, along with cupping.
Her hours at the new location will be 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Mondays through Wednesdays.
Wellman lives in Meriden and is the mother of three girls, Addisyn, 13, Kashtyn, 5, and Ainsley, 3.
Both women are excited to be providing a much-needed service to the small community of Meriden and its surrounding areas.
“Mental health is such a big focus right now,” said Wellman. “Though our services are only an hour or so, if we can make you feel better in that time, we feel we’ve really accomplished something.”
Goldberg agrees. “And if we can give somebody the confidence to go about their day, especially going into the new year, we’ve done what we came to do.”
She adds that she feels she has really found her niche, and that her former desire to become a therapist is fulfilled in her current job.
“What I’ve found is the best of both worlds. You can become close to someone in that very vulnerable hour you spend with them in your chair. I don’t know what it is, but I find people opening up to me,” she stated. “I just want to give them that time to decompress and so I listen, without judgement.”
While the two keep busy with repeat clients — Goldberg is booked a couple weeks out and Wellman, a month out — both have open books and welcome new clients. They frequently post last-minute open time slots on their social media pages for those in need of a quick fix.
Goldberg has already begun to brainstorm how she might expand services at the location.
She hopes to add an injector later this month to provide Botox and filler. She also feels a nail tech would be a good addition to what they already offer.
“We’ve heard that people are excited to be able to have these services locally,” stated Wellman. “Meriden is such a desirable town, and we want to add to that.”
