Cash Stein
A Jefferson County teen is recovering after being shot in the head during a hunting trip Nov. 27. Cash Stein, 15, was on a goose hunting trip with a group of his friends when he was accidently shot.
“This particular group of boys have been hunting together for many years, occupying their time with productive activities, not on the streets causing mischief,” GoFundMe fundraiser organizer Dustin Pieschel said. “My heart breaks for this young man and his family.”

The accident occured on the west side of Rock Creek Township, according to Jefferson County Sheriff Jeff Herrig. Following the incident, Cash was life-flighted to Children’s Mercy, Kansas City.
According to updates provided on the Facebook page of Cash’s parents, Shelby and Adam Stein, Valley Falls, Cash underwent surgery to remove some fragments and one of the pellets. Two pellets were left because to remove them would cause more damage. Several days later, Cash was taken off sedation and his breathing tube removed. Last Thursday, Pieschel posted an update which stated Cash still has motor skills, feeling, and speech.
“Cash has a long road ahead of him! Thank you to everyone that has reached out and is praying,” a message from the teen’s parents read. “We also ask that you pray for his friends that were with him. They are struggling too. These were friends he has hunted with for years. This is what they love to do. It was just a freak accident.”
