Valley Falls bus mishap injures a few children on Feb. 8

by Davis Publications staff

A few school children received some bumps and bruises Feb. 8 when a Valley Falls school bus slid into a ditch on 131st street.

The driver, Lisa Abramovitz, met another vehicle on the crest of a hill and the road was narrow because of ice and snow, Superintendent Loren Feldkamp said.

The rear of the bus slid into the ditch causing the children on one side of the bus to fall toward the other side.

“Five or six kids were jostled,” he said.

Another bus was sent to the scene to pick the children up and all the parents of the children who were on the bus were notified.

“It’s hard to get ahold of some parents, because they are working or gone,” Feldkamp said, but we tried as best we could.

The parents of the children who were known to be injured came to the school and some were taken out of the school and some were not.

“I think at least one child was given an X-ray at a medical clinic, but they were all back in school the next day,” Feldkamp said.

A farmer in the area pulled the bus out with his tractor.
